Can't Keep a Good Dog Down

"Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength."

Isaiah 40:28-29

My poor baby has an ear infection and a hurt elbow. This is his second ear infection in five months. I can tell it's coming on because he furiously shakes his head and leans his hurting ear into my hand. As for the elbow, we came back from our morning run, and he seemed as energetic as ever. I got out of the shower, and he was visibly limping, causing mama to panic.

The vet gave him ear medication which he just loves (sarcasm, my friends). He also has to rest his leg for two weeks. I'm not sure the vet has ever treated a Labrador. Rest? Really? Sure, he sleeps...after we run seven miles. And then by evening he's back spinning in circles in the living room.

Somebody really needs to inform Squirrel that he's under the weather because he sure doesn't act like it. He's still running all over the house, barking out the window, and jumping all over me when I walk in the front door.

I guess you can't keep a good dog down.

And something else I'm finding? You can't keep a good God down either. No matter what curve life throws, it can't pull God down, weaken Him, or limit His powers.

I had a water leak in my bathroom recently, that made its way through the ceiling of the main floor...through the floor...and down to the basement floor. That leak really committed. I guess anything worth doing is worth doing well?

At first insurance wasn't going to cover it. They'd cover repainting the bathroom, but that wouldn't even scratch at my deductible. And when you're getting bathroom renovation quotes of between $12-15,000, that's not great news. I don't know about you, but I don't keep a cookie jar on the counter with that kind of spare change. That would be a big cookie jar. More like a cookie barrel, or maybe a cookie vat.

Through prayer and the blessing of an unreal insurance adjuster who went back to fight their own company to have them cover ripping out my shower and replacing it - who DOES that?! - my policy is going to cover the repair.

It wasn't that I thought God couldn't cover the bathroom repair. I just felt it was going to more of a "trust Me through the pain" kind of situation. And I was prepared to. But man, God decided to pull through in a big way.

I told you - you can't keep a good God down. He can send you contractors and insurance adjusters who fight FOR you, not against. If you've ever dealt with insurance, you understand the magnitude of that.

So it's okay if your troubles have you down, at least momentarily. That's human. Just know...nothing keeps God down, not even a tomb.

And, apparently, nothing - neither ear infection, nor sore elbow, nor scolding dog mama - keeps Squirrel down. So excuse me while I go stop him from harassing the beagle walking in front of our house....
