"I would redeem them, but they speak lies against me. They do not cry to me from the heart, but they wail upon their beds."

Hosea 7:13b-14, ESV

Still deep in Hosea over here - someone save me!

Okay, I jest. I actually love this book. I've just been in it a really long time and am ready to move onto to the next. Yet, there is still so much I am gaining from it, so perhaps God is not ready for me to start something new quite yet.

Please note the placement of my boy's bed in the photo above. His comfortable, pillowy, why-does-this-cost-so-much bed. But no, he chooses the carpet next to it. He would be so much more comfortable if he moved 12 inches to the left! I don't understand his tiny brain, but then I don't understand how I could lived in the D.C. area for 10 years and still know zero street names, so I probably shouldn't cast stones.

...I'm very much a "take a left by that weird castle-y building and then a right by the big, pretty tree" kind of directions person. This may also be why my parents like me to have an old-school atlas in my car.

I thought it was interesting how God expresses his frustration through the prophet Hosea in His people's responses to the consequences of their actions. The Israelites "wailed on their beds" in frustration and pain, but they didn't cry to Him. Comfort and relief were there in front of them, but they were blind to it. They cried but didn't turn to the one who would dry their tears. They were like Squirrel, inches from a soothing place to sleep, but too stubborn to move off the carpet.

What do I do first when facing a problem? Call my parents? Text a friend? Scream into my pillow? Oh yeah, maybe talk to God?

It's been all of the above, at one time or another. Not necessary bad options, just out of order. If I'm st looking to only complain, then yelling into my pillow or venting to Squirrel are not bad options. But if I actually want to "be healed" like Jesus asked so many people prior to performing a miracle, then I am turning to all the wrong places.

So Jesus, we might need to have a long talk tonight before bed. I can't wait.
